Kom Ombo

Our ship docked mid afternoon right at the side of the magnificent Kom Ombo Temple which was built in the Greco-Roman period and dedicated to Sobek the crocodile god, and Horus
the falcon headed god. As we walked up to the temple we stopped to chat to a snake charmer who put one around Gary's neck. The ruins of this structure shows the size of the original construction
as it incorporated the two temples in one area. It appears that the eastern side was for Sobek (Seth) and his wife Hathor and son Khonsu. The other side was for Horus, wife Hathor-ta-sent-nefert
and son Panebtawny. One of the pictures below show the two gods side by side. There is a well which in those days was a measure of how much rain had fallen in the previous year to indicate the tax payable by the farmers for the year.
As we left we lined up to visit the small temple in the forecourt that had the mummified remains of crocodiles in their clay coffins. This temple was dedicated to Hathor. After a great visit back to the ship
to travel on.
